1. “I read because I like reading

Branch number 8 of the Public Library in Krosno organized a contest of loud reading. This contest was addressed to the third forms of the primary schools.  There were 60 participants of the contest. Our school was represented by ten pupils (3a, 3b) under the supervision of their class tutors – Ms Danuta Chochołek and Ms Jolanta Zajdel.

Ms Izabel Staroń, Ms Grażyna Ziębicka and Ms Wanda Belcik - the jury of the contest – assessed correctness and fluency of reading, and interpretation of the texts from Małgorzata Bąkiewicz’s book “ Korniszonek” (Gherkin)

The second stage in this contest was more difficult than the first one; participants ought to read new texts which they had not known before. Among eleven participants, there were three boys of our school in the second stage; Wiktor Kazanecki (3a), Jarosław Trznadel (3b), Bartosz Zimka (3b). Wiktor won the competition, Bartosz received a diploma reward; both of boys received diplomas and book awards.

We congratulate them on their superb performance and we hope that they will represent our school in the future.

2. Easter rhymes

Branch number 8 of the Public Library in Krosno organized a declamation contest on “Easter rhymes”. This contest was addressed to the first forms of the primary schools. There were 48 participants of the contest; six of them represented our school. They were supposed to declaim one rhyme and they did it very well. The jury of the contest had to choose three of them.

Joanna Zajdel was given a diploma reward and a book award for the thyme of Dorota Gellner “Easter eggs”.

We congratulate Joasia on her superb performance!

3. Easter Time

There was a solemn meeting in our school dedicated to Easter. Pupils of the second form presented an artistic programme directed by Mrs Jadwiga Buczek and Mrs Lucyna Czernatowicz. The meeting began with the cheerful song “Alleluia”, then Wiktor Winiarski-the head boy of the school – and Szymon Czerny – the deputy head- reminded us about the customs and traditions connected with Easter - one of the oldest Christian holidays. Second form children amused us with the performance about Easter Eggs. Girls danced an old Polish dance – cracovienne and our school choir sang some Easter songs. For the first time pupils and teachers of our school exchanged Easter eggs with each other and wished Happy Easter.

4. Performance for parents

Parents of our school children had a possibility to come familiar with some results of our work in Socrates Comenius Project. On 18 April pupils of the second form and the school choir presented their artistic programme devoted to Easter. Then, the members of the theatrical club showed a performance called “The four seasons of the year”. We hope that their artistic appearance has appealed to this particular public

5. 3 May Constitution

Pupils of the forth forms under the supervision of Ms Agata  Reiss and Ms Jolanta Wójcik prepared a solemn assembly devoted to the night of 3 May, 1971 when Polish  Constitution has been  established. Although the subject was quite difficult, our pupils managed to convey their knowledge concerning distant, historical events as clear as possible. They expressed their respect for the past and national symbols, love for their home country, and respect for some brave patriots who brought our country freedom and independence.

6. End products of the second year of the project

We have got three end products made by our pupils under the supervision of the teachers – A cookery Book, A Calendar of Festival, and A Book of Seasonal Proverbs and Sayings.  We are going to present them during a forthcoming project meeting in Finland.

A Cookery Book of Polish dishes has been made during English lessons. Pupils of the sixth forms chose some recipes and translated them into English. All the recipies were collected and published as A Cookery Book.

Descriptions of festivals and holidays celebrated in partner countries are collected in Calendar of Festivals. It includes pupils’ works and photos taken during school’s events and celebrities.

Book of Seasonal Proverbs consists of some known Polish proverbs and pupils illustrations of these proverbs; the best works were scanned and printed.

We are working on an electronic version of this book. We hope that pupils and teachers of partner schools will enjoy this book.

7. Project meeting in Finland

There was a project meeting between 23rd and 27th May, 2007 in two Finnish schools – Jaalin Koulu and Hannuksen Koulu in Kiiminki.

Firstly, we visited school in Jaalin; we were impressed by spacious and bright classrooms and corridors, and pupils’ works displayed on the walls. Each classroom is equipped with a computer and a sink, a sofa or an armchair to have a rest. There are two teachers in the class; one conducts a lesson, the other works with pupils who need some help.

We observed different lessons; in Finland pupils learn sewing – they use sewing machines, they have wood processing classes and piano lessons. There is a piano in every classroom; teachers play the piano during lessons. During the Science lesson, pupils were making projects using laptops. Similarly to our school, there is also a computer room. Pupils spend their long breaks on a big playground.

We exchanged end products such as Cookery Book, Calendar of Festivals and Booklet of Seasonal Proverbs. We also discussed some details concerning next year’s activities.

More information about a visit to Finland will be available in the summer booklet.
